A dedicated and motivated environmental engineer, Bahareh Asefi, contributes to research, teaching, and sustainable development. Her research focuses on sustainability, food security, and the social, economic, and environmental impacts of food waste. With a background in environmental science, she has contributed to various projects aimed at reducing food waste in educational institutions and promoting environmental awareness. She is an enthusiastic researcher who strives to achieve goals and solve environmental issues. She has conducted research on microbial fuel cells, biofuels, and waste management.
Main education and study abroad experience:
In 2019, She received a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences & Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Xiamen, China. She completed her master’s at the University of Science & Technology Beijing in 2014, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Engineering from Azad University in Tehran in 2011. Additionally, She hold a diploma in Environmental Health from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.
Teaching work:
She has been responsible for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses such as "Environmental Engineering," "Ecology," and "Marine Science," and has guided and trained master’s and bachelor’s students through their graduation projects.
Research work:
Her research focuses on sustainable solutions for food waste management and microbial fuel cells. Key projects include evaluating food waste practices in higher education, recycling rare earth elements from industrial sludge using green leaching agents, and developing processes for removing triclosan in engineered systems. She has published several papers in international journals, and her work includes characterizing microbial communities in food waste-fed microbial fuel cells. She has also contributed to ecotoxicological risk assessments of industrial sludge. Additionally, she has served as a reviewer for scientific journals and led a food waste awareness campaign.
